NFL Free Agency Heating Up
The NFL free agency negotiating period began on March 9, allowing teams to start speaking with and agreeing to terms with unrestricted free agents ahead of the new league year, when contracts can officially be signed. The early hours of the negotiating window quickly produced major deals and extensions as teams moved aggressively to secure top talent and avoid bidding wars once the market fully opens. Among the biggest agreements, wide receiver Alec Pierce landed a massive four-year contract worth about $116 million, making him the highest-paid receiver available in this free-agent class, while pass rusher Jaelan Phillips secured a four-year deal worth roughly $120 million with Carolina. Several teams also focused on retaining or extending key players already on their rosters, including Washington extending offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil on a two-year contract valued at more than $60 million and the Raiders re-signing cornerback Eric Stokes. Teams with significant salary-cap flexibility such as the Raiders, Titans, Chargers, Commanders, and Jets are expected to be the most active during the early stages of free agency, as organizations across the league race to upgrade rosters through a combination of signings, trades, and contract extensions before the market becomes more competitive.
